Our colourful bus is ready for the drive into Noumea town, to visit the markets.
The water out the front of our motel and the restaurant, Le Roof is the view in the background.
We arrived at the markets in the centre of Noumea town. Expressions such as "Je Voudrais ..." and "Combien ca coute?" got a big run as we boosted the local economy in a frenzy of purchasing. We learned a lot about the purchasing power of the Pacific Franc.
Lots of trinkets and jewellery on offer.
Local fish - with the smell!
Souvenirs for the parents?
Clothing was quite cheap.
We bought a delicious lunch at a local Boulangerie and the pastries were in high demand - "Tres bien!"was the call!
Later In the day we visited a supermarket. Issy (below) is not making a comment on her character but rather points out a product that a few of us purchased. We managed to buy lots of French treats and delights.
The park shows the local second-hand dealers out on show.
Late in the day we headed by bus to a local Birdlife park. The main feature was a rare New Caledonian bird called the Kaga. The local paparazzi were led by Jess who set out to 'snap' both the white and blue versions of the peacock.
The day finished with a swim on the beach across the road and then a nice dinner.
Tomorrow we head to Amedee Island and look forward to a day of snorkelling after a boat ride.
