Phare Amedee - a day on a Pacific Island
Boarding the boat for the 40 minute ocean ride to the island.
We were in open water for the run from Port Moselle to the island with the lighthouse offshore, Phare Amedee.
We enjoyed a nice buffet lunch which had a show of New Caledonian dancing, accompanied by ukuleles and drums.
The absolute highlight of our time on Amedee was the snorkelling. The coral, fish and ocean creatures were stunning. The best surprise of all was the many ocean turtles that most of us managed to see and photograph. We walked around the island, avoiding the snakes, which took about 15 minutes. There was a glass-bottom boat, a cruise to the outer reef and lots and lots of coral to explore. None of us went to the outer reef as we were to busy snorkelling. We also had a lot of fun diving in and jumping from the jetty.
Plenty of snakes but despite being deadly, their mouths are too small to harm humans!
After a long day, some of us had hamburgers or take-away on hype he beach across from the hotel.
