Arrived Safely - Island Dancing

What a day and night! We arrived in humid Noumea and passed through customs with nary a problem; much better off than a companion from Eden. who arrived sans luggage.

After a 40 minute bus journey we arrived at Le Pacifique and settled into our rooms on floor 30. (I don't get the maths but it is floor 1! ,it's not the Ritz but we ain't in Paris either, though the lingo is the same!

Our intrepid leader Mme Malmoux navigated us through the tropical welcome drinks (no poisons added) and I discovered that the most urgent need of the younger travellers seemed to be to get wifi for the phones and iPads (that they didn't bring!) It was discovered that only two channels on the TV were in English, one being CNN. Sadly no footy on any channel! Reruns of Mash in French make interesting viewing! I am hoping that it isn't a French version of Fawlty Towers!

We enjoyed a nice casserole for dinner and thus far have been spared the snails and frog-legs!

The highlight of the night was the traditional dancing, Melanesian style. The beautiful girls were so enraptured with the style and form of Angus, Alex and Tom that they were each selected to join them on the floor, getting into the beat. (Video evidence exists but may be withheld from viewing - for a price.)

We had a great first day and are looking forward to visiting the shops and markets in the morning, after Mme Malmoux gives us some tips on how to speak to vendors etc in that French lingo that everyone speaks over here! Bonsoir! It is a small world but one of the teachers of another school had a wife who went to school with Mr Smith.
